I just assumed it was a straight forward "tribute" to an old classic - like the Louis Armstrong song in Parineeta. But if Vaali claims to have written it himself, then all he's done is to kill all of the wit from the original! You're right about Kummi Adi - it's definitely my fav. I liked "New York" until I made the mistake of watching the video on YouTube - there's a line about his not getting coffee in the mornings or something, and they have a shot of Surya singing soulfully to a cup of coffee at a sidewalk restaurant...
