"Tabun", eh? Atleast the guy was smart enough to use a made up name for the album. I'm sure he doesn't want an irate (& terribly hungry) mob seeking him out everyday.
I gladly accept your -pathys and the kind words. Muchos thanks!

Hopped over to your blog from a link from Anti to your acronym blunders. Couldn't stop reading with one, so here I am commenting on one of your older posts.

As someone who has suffered 'Tabun's Soft Instrumentals' in my local Bombay Palace many a time, I feel sympathy. And empathy. And telepathy and Dalapathi as well, if you prefer those. Point being - I loved your post and your style of writing and will surely be back to read more :) Cheers!

DoZ! you have it good. Atleast you got vocals. Now imagine that same Kaal song played on a shehnai. Yeah, that's right...instant migraine!
There's a new competitor for Udipi in town - a Woodlands. And they were playing 'Yun Hi Chala Chal Rahi' from Swades during the buffet. I was so happy I could've danced with my plate of Fried Rice/Gobi Manchurian.

Roopa: Give in. Spare the old maestro a few hundred rupaiya. Trust me, it won't be the worst 150Rs. you spent.

Being a frequent visitor at 'Chaat Cafe' - one of Dallas' better desi restaurants, I know exactly what you mean. If I listen to the SRK item number from Kaal one more time, my head will explode.

And your description of idlis (for the goras), and the way Sambar tastes at a Northie joint - again, bang on!

I'll leave Illaiyaraja to you loyal fans. I'll stick to my mush and Rohinton Mistrys!
But I am getting orders from friends to pick up the CD from Landmark. I might just end up listening to it once. The ex-boss seemed close to tears when he was explaining the significance of the compilation to ignorant me!

Hey, check out the ringtone link in my post, and tell me if that didn't rock your world! :) Hmm...I wouldn't have guessed TiS would one day end up being the top-selling album at Landmark. Good for Raja!

Your ringtone is Illaiyaraja music too? Oh God!:))
Offlate there has been a lot of activity in Chennai, with the launch of his "thiruvasagam" (?)!Even my ex-boss who was in Chennai for a day, asked me if I could take him to a music store, so he could pick up the CD. Landmark has apparently not had such huge sales. Everyone is talking only about this compilation. Amidst all this chaos, I gave into temptation and pre-ordered my copy of my the next Harry Potter!*sigh*

Srivatsan: I think any music that is downsampled to 8000Hz mono and heard through the teensy speakers of a cellphone will sound like muzak. :) My friend was not trying to insult my taste in music. He was just making an observation. Plus, I don't really expect tattooed headbangers (like my friend) to turn into Ilaiyaraja fans overnight when even Tamil friends of mine don't care much for his music. Sad, huh?

its hard for an american to appreciate IR, i dont understand how they can call IR muzak. subtelity is his trademark, there are awesome subtle sounds in his music. weve been listenin to IR for a long time, are used to it, maybe an untrained ear cant pick up the nuances of his music and therefore brands it as muzak!!
