Reading about music directors travelling to exotic places to draw inspiration for an album, has always brought to me images of both film-maker & composer exchanging ideas, perched on a tree stump in a forest clearing right out of LOTR, birds chirping in the background and autumn leaves collecting around their feet. I’ll have to redraw that image now.

TIME magazine listed 50 websites they thought were “cool”. Predictably enough, I checked the ‘Blog’ section first and thus, retraced my steps back to the Fug-Girls blog.
All alone on a Friday night, in an effort to re-activate the frizzled grey cells after a torturous work week, I thought to myself, “Wow! wonder how much more traffic this brought to their site”. So sadly enough, I checked out their Sitemeter stats, just in time to read “Total 7,999,500″ at an “Average Per Day 78,000″.

Read and laugh, all those who thought, “Got to be the dumbest 9 minutes ever spent on a Friday Night”. (In my defense, I’ve heard Salman Khan was conceived on a Friday night).

- I’m liking Shyam Radio. Their playlist of spliced-up songs, like some out-of-control TFM time machine, yanks me around on pleasurable roller-coaster rides called MSV, Raja & Rahman. The occasional comedy stop-overs (actual clips from movies, not the Ads) only adds to the charm. Hey! I’m even beginning to like Oru Naal Oru Kanavu some more. :)

- I’ll aspire to this kind of classy voyeurism when my 350D comes in, after the Great Dell BackOrder of 2005.
Pilots who blog have it easy though. Composition/Contrast/Photoshop be damned. They hold ultimate vantage position.

- If anyone is allowed to make long posts, it should be Anna. If I could write like her, I would write about how well she writes.

- I have this (retarded) craving to smell a Durian now. I blame Karthik.

- Final absurd thought before I hit ‘Publish’. Has anyone done a survey to find out how many blogs have the words “Random”, “Ramblings”, “Musings” & “Ruminations” in their title? Or variations of it, like, ‘Discordant Notes’ ?

I’d been sitting on these Javed Akhtar lyrics for quite some time. Not sure if they’ve been set to tune before, but I kind of liked its flow. And I’d also been thinking about using an instrumental called “Closing Question” by this trip-hop band called Purple Penguin. So yeah, it all came together tonight…Javed Akhtar’s ghazal set to tune - trip-hop style!

(I was too lazy to play any music on the track. I’ll maybe add an instrumental track later. Also, forgive the singing.)

It’s vaguely amusing that Kollywood directors are trying hard to make Madras seem more like a Goonda Utopia. Almost like they wished we had our own Dawoods & Rajans to make ‘Company’s about. But no, we don’t. So they overwork their imagination and create terrible villains. Total Narakasurs. But with fancier names like…’Sanniyan’ Sagade, ‘PanParag’ Ravi and ‘Pattaasu’ Balu (Indha Balu paesa maattaan, pattaasu thaan paesum). But, three villains? Like, are they, like, three brothers or something…like? Nah. Just three stand-alone goondas territorially terrorising Madras. Sagade takes care of S.Madras, PP Ravi gets North & Cracker Balls (P.Balu’s ghetto name) reigns supreme in Central. Nice. All the more henchmen for Vijay to bash up while grinding out fiery dialogues, his spittle making gentle arcs across the screen.

Adding to the long list of Tamil-prefixed domains (State, Tricks, Beat etc) is TamilRevolution. Not a lot different from the others in terms of content…DivX, Mp3s, Remixes, Original songs. Wait a minute. Maybe a tad different after all. A composer called Reagan has one of his songs on the site as a free download. Going by the quality of their remixes, I expected a track with beats splintering across my headphones to cause me more distress. Nah. In fact, a very decent composition. I reminded myself that this was some dude in a self-made studio working with limited resources who came up with this. And the reminder helped me appreciate the song more, and ignore the Yuvan Shankar type singing and the quality of the mix (the vocals get drowned in all the music).

Karthik seeks my humiliation with the book tag. His books litter my house, begging to be read so as to indulge him in the ‘book-talk’ he so yearns for. Me? I just frown everytime I pick up Neal Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon. I translate the time I’ll spend reading that to the hours I can spend on my music…all those crappy tunes I compose to fill up my hard-drive. But to my credit, I atleast drove him to start writing about it instead.

I lurk around mp3 blogs and acquire all the free music I can (and some of them are awesome!), but ’twas a strange path I took to get to Fredo Viola…via Anil Dash’s blog. But I’m glad I got there and some of you will too. This has got to be the most innovative video I’ve seen in a long time. The song by itself might sound tiresome, but after having seen the video, it’ll be on my next compilation disc.

ITwoFS has more information about the ‘Black Eyed Peas’ hit single, ‘Don’t Phunk With My Heart’ . While I thought it was only the intro that had been borrowed by the Peas, it is now revealed that the rest of the song is lifted from another Kalyanji-Anandji number called Ye Naujawan from Apradh.

91 off 90, is a good stat to read on the Indian cricket scoreboard, but when found under “Dowry Deaths — Days”, it’s just plain infuriating.
