Femme FM

FM station at MOP Vaishnav

In the wake of FM’s popularity in India comes, what is probably, the nation’s first college radio station - MOP FM 91.2. And while I’d have thunk an IIT or one of them fancy St. prefixed colleges would’ve been the first to do this, it turns out the ladies of MOP Vaishnav College, Madras are walking away with the honor. Maybe the Loyola mOchaans, Pachaiyappas machis et al. don’t care about a radio station, but I’m sure would be interested to know if the girls in the photo are doing a call-in show on theirs.

Quick notes:
The programmes can be heard clearly within a 7.5 km radius in the city - Not bad
No film based shows - Konjam Sucks
The students have worked on the material, interviews, post-production and the jingles - Very very cool

I too read about it in the latest issues of Vikatan and Kumudham. Appreciate their boldness in shunning film based programs and film songs. Hope they survive.

I’m guessing it was not their decision to shun film-based programming, unless of course you read otherwise in Kumudham/Vikadan.

  3. Sarat Says:

Considering the fact that private broadcast of news and current affairs programs is banned in India, it will be interesting so see to what extent the students will be allowed to express themselves.
